Afraid You Won't Get the $ or Title You Deserve?

Do you hear yourself saying...

“I’m afraid of not earning the money I want, or the title I think I deserve.”

While money and titles can be quite important, and are often regarded as proof of success they don't guarantee satisfaction.

The two biggest problems with these metrics are:

  1. There's always someone who'll make more money or have a better title
  2. If working within a company, your progression depends on convincing someone else of your worthiness.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t attempt for more. Far from it. Also, I’d like to offer some ADDITIONAL indicators of career success to strive toward, negotiate for or appreciate as much as a title or salary bump.

> Clarity & Intention of Purpose
Know what you're working toward and why by connecting to its impact on others vs just yourself. Here’s where a professional mission can serve you. There’s satisfaction in understanding the purpose of your work, what it does for the people you serve.

> Constant Mastery Time to upskill, clarity on what skills to invest in, dedicated time and attention to that upgrade.

> Command Over Your Time You can walk your kids to school, take off at 3pm to pick them up, or join a meeting at the dog park. You have dedicated time for strategic thinking. No one is looking over your shoulder or getting in your way (including yourself).

> Cultivate Trust and Authority to Work Autonomously Build rapport with the people you work with to let you do what you need to do in the time you need to do it. Related: saying 'no' and having people respect your past output to take that 'no' seriously. You have confidence in yourself to draw that line and delegate. The negative consequences from not keeping the boundary outweigh any retaliation you imagine.

Often we fixate on salary and title as the only benchmarks for success. In reviews or negotiations, consider advocating for and adding these to your list of leadership requirements.

What’s scarier than Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers or finding out you have to deliver a presentation to your CEO 5 minutes before the meeting starts? What keeps you up at night as you think about upleveling your leadership career? We can help with that, click here, www.acelectric.co/work
