How do I create visibility opportunities to get the CEO’s attention?
In my private LinkedIn Community, The Electric Break Room, I have a client wondering how to get her CEO’s attention.
This sparked quite the comment chain with women who were senior leaders at their orgs giving practical tips on how this gets done.
It’s a common need. Sometimes it looks like trying to cut through to your skip level boss or another senior leader?
No matter what, if you’re going to cut through the noise at your org, here’s a few ways to get in front of the people who matter, as told by the very people you might want to connect with.
From a CTO and a partner in the Community:
“CEOs are busy. I would fight for a cadenced review cycle if no forum exists and the culture of the org allows it. If it's monthly, quarterly, every 6 months, etc. To do this make sure the CEO is also learning/getting something out of the meeting. What are you offering for their time?”
“Frame the team accomplishments in the context of the business objectives and business planning goals. CEOs want to know every employee understands their plans and every team is swimming in the same direction. By framing your team's work and accomplishments in the larger organizational plans the CEO will be faster to understand what your team is focused on and build trust that you as a leader are supporting their vision for the company.”
“Learn the Preferred Communication Style of the CEO: Do they like long pre-reads, presentations, whiteboard sessions. Every person ingests information differently and figuring out how your CEO likes to efficiently receive info is key to making most of their attention span.”
