Do you have a clear value prop?
My #tedx talk was canceled in January and it really messed with me. I had prepped for months and became a shut in during my bday month to stay covid free. After all that planning, it seemed to amount to nothing. It was a really crummy way to start 2022.
This Spring, thanks in partnership with my former student Donna DeWick, I gave the speech to Total Energies where Donna just began a new role that we worked on visioning and securing for her together.
[me talking about how to get hired promoted and paid]
Let me tell you: it felt really good to FINALLY get that speech out in the world. It resonated with so many women - over 140 of them on the call from 3 different continents and at least 10 countries.
I can tell that what I shared about:
the 3 skills all leaders need to break into management
why women are particularly held back at work
And how to find your leadership vision and story
Is going to really resonate with people when I finally deliver this speech on the TED stage next year.
The amazing thing - I would never have known what to talk about, what stories to tell, where to pitch this talk without knowing my own value prop.
And even though I’m an expert on helping ambitious women to hone and position theirs so they can become directors, SVPs and directors at Google, First National Bank and Nike among others, I know it only matters if you can position it correctly.
I know some people in the crew are interested in getting promoted or hired into leadership, gaining visibility with senior leaders and even speaking in the future.
Having a value proposition and knowing how to position it and your expertise is what really cracked things open for me.
